Golden Sower Nominees

What book was your favorite? Why? What was your least favorite? Why? What character do you identify most with? Why?

  1. My favorite book is Stolen Children. Amy finds herself struggling desperately to keep the toddler calm and keep them both alive.I could not put the book down. I wanted to see what was going to happen next. I liked all the Golden Sowers, but I guess if I had to pick one, it would have to be Long Shot. I'm not into basketball and I don't understand why the coach couldn't see what Ned was doing to Pedro. It seemed too obvious to me.

I think I most identified with Griffin Bing in Swindle. I always plan how to solve problems and I want the dishonest person to be found out no matter what the risk.

  2. My favorite Golden Sower was Stolen Children. Amy was really clever and kept them both alive, healthy, and safe (as long as she didn't push the guys buttons). When Amy put the hints in the videos, I was like wow, that is really smart. I hoped she didn't get caught, which she didn't, luckily. Kendra stayed calm and relaxed because Amy did. I kept wanting to read it. It was hard when we had to stop reading, but then I continued at home. I really enjoyed all the Golden Sowers, but if I had to choose my least favorite, it was probably Swindle. Swindle was slow, for me, in the beginning and didn't pick up until the very late middle or last parts of the book.I just didn't really connect to it.

I think I most identify with Amy because I'm clever and when there is a bad situation, I try to stay cool, calm, and collected like she did.

  5. I agree that stolen children was great because it was action packed and you just couldn’t put the book down but it still wasn’t as good as Paint the Wind. Still I do not think long shot was that bad you could really tell how Pedro was confused and frustrated but it still was a little boring.

  6. My favorite book is Paint the Wind, because it felt like you were actually part of the book and in the scenes. My least favorite book is Swindle it just never really caught my attention. The character I most identify with is Maya from Paint the Wind because I like horses and love being with animals and being on a farm

  8. This is actually Fiona Mae. I really liked all of the books. My favorite was Savvy! I loved the part where Mibs says, "I will not ever let anybody come into my brain and stick." She was dealing with snotty, mean girls and then she saw how he let his mother and aunt stick into his brain and make him feel worthless and powerless. I will remember this that Mibs said my whole life! The world would be such a better place if mean people were just forgotten. I also liked the romance. It was sweet and interesting. Plus, the fact that I think we all have our own "savvy's" makes the book even better.
I think my least favorite was "Longshot" it was just too hinting. I could tell exactly what was going to happen before it happened. There was no major drama going on-it just didn't appeal to me. I do like basketball, but it was too much basketball. No adventure.

  9. I think I most identified with Mibs, even though she is way older then me. She has a nose for adventure and she welcomes it. She seems to be very brave and not afraid of life. I also think I identify with Gabriall. The book Gabrials Horses was very very good. It is hard to image that people actually lived like that though. I dont think I could treat someone so different just because they are black. He really proved himself and I liked that he found his voice and found his bravery. I also identify with him in the fact that his dad went away with the Army and my dad does too. I really understand how sad he is when his dad is gone. it is hard having one of the most important people in your life gone and in harms way, and knowing that he could be gone for good.

  10. I liked "Stolen Children" too. She is sooo brave and it seems nothing scares her. I really like the page-turning anticipation. AMy is the best babysitter in the world. I agree with what Natalie says about Amy being smart about her hints in the videos. He parents were also smart to understand the hints. Even though the kidnappers were too stupid to figure it out. I think this book would make a great movie!

  11. All of Jason said is acually FIona Mae says. My 2 older sisters read Paint the Wind" and we have the CD's of the book too. I loved this book. I hated when the baby horse-colt-died. I could just see the blood and almost smell the death by the way the author described it. I wanted to step into the book and help that baby somehow. The cougar made my blood go cold with shivers. I was mad at all cats in the world!
It also gives me a sense of joy when in the end she says,"grandpa"! It was heartwarming. SHe went from being a lonely child to one who had a lot of family members who loved her.

  12. SWindle was one of the first books I read. It really appealed to me since I really like Dogs and there was a doggy on the cover. I thought that they could have just said, "I have a work assignment", instead of faking an injury. I felt with the girl who could communicate with the dog. I liked how he did this all just to help his family. I liked how in the end, it turned out the guy was telling the truth about being the grandson of MR Swindle.

  13. The book" Masterpeice" was very interesting, having a bug friend who is a great artist would be cool. Plus, I tried to draw or write soo small. It is hard and it did.... not work. I still really liked this book, though. It was a new and interesting idea. I learned a little about art too!

  14. Alcatraz vs. the evil librarians had slow parts but when they were in action, you have your eyes glued on the book. Like when Grandpa Smedrey versed Blackburn with those super power glasses. Do Not Pass Go I was not actually interested because I like action books. However, at some parts you could understand how hard it was with his Dad getting arrested and all.

  17. I liked how the character Gabriel expressed its feelings clearly, I also enjoyed all the history I learned from Gabriel’s Horses. On the parts when the other jockey and Gabriel were racing each other, I wanted to cheer on. Savvy was iffy it wasn’t horrible and it wasn’t the best. At some parts I felt like jumping into the book at other times, I felt like falling asleep.

  18. Emmy and the incredible shrinking rat was great I loved how on the third bite of the rat you would shrink it sounds so cool to know that if you got bite three times by the rat you would shrink. I loved masterpiece because I now understand how it felt to be a cockroach how it was hard to wander I was amazed by Marvin’s gift to draw. I wish I had been able to stroke his paintings and memorize every little detail.

  20. I loved masterpiece. The book made me see what it is like, how hard it must be to be a cockroach. I love the way the author let me know that every living thing has their one little personality. I wish I was there to see him do his thing.

  21. Emmy and the Incredibly Shrinking Rat was a fun book full of adventure and mystery. I liked the way emmy found the rat and aloud him in to her house. In the beginning of the book I felt sad for Emmy because all she wanted washer parents to love her but she got every thing else instead. Near the end of the book she finely stood up to her nanny and got what she wanted.

  22. I read "Don't Pass Go" and could hardly put the book down. I enjoyed it from beginning to the very end. I felt bad for him I mean his dad being gone in prison and every thing.I mean he only did drugs to stay awake to do two jobs and support his family. This book helped me see that criminals are people too. They have feelings and hopes and dreams just like regular people. It really opened my eyes.

  23. I liked the book "Alcatrez and the Evil Liberians". It was fun to read about liberians being evil. I like most of the liberians I have met. I liked how in the beginning of the book he didn't have any family and then his Grandpa just barged in and his life was changed at that moment. His Grandpa needed his help to defeat the evil Liberians-I love saying that. I liked how they worked together and fought hard against the librarians. I loved the descriptions of the dinosaurs. I could just picture them with their shirts and hats. It was a very fun book.

I love Gabriel's Horses because the book took place during the Civil War. I find that war really interesting because Americans were fighting against themselves which wasn't a very smart idea because either way, the United States as a country would lose a lot of good people. I did not like the book Long Shot because I do not like books about sports. I like books with more adventure and I do not like to play sports a lot so reading a book about sports made me pretty bored. The character that was most like me was probably Griffin because when I was little, I used to pretend I was a secret agent and sneak into people's houses. I always got caught though. I think all the books were pretty good.

  25. My favorite book was Stolen Children by Peg Kehret.I liked it a lot because it's very suspenseful and because there is never a dull moment in Amy's adventure with Kendra. I can tell that Amy is very calm and wise when in this kind of situation. That's the reason that she and Kendra made it out OK. I would recommend this book to a friend.

  26. My least favorite Golden Sower was Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat because I found it very strange that the rat could talk and shrink people and other creepy impossible things. I prefer realistic fiction books because it seems like the events in the story are really happening.
